Kenya’s Mary Keitany set a new women’s only world record on Sunday as she won the women’s London Marathon. Keitany posted 2:17:01, breaking the previous record held by Paula Radcliffe.
“I want to say it was a great day for me. It was really amazing,” Keitany told BBC after the win.
Tirunesh Dibaba and Aselefech Mergia, both of Ethiopia finished second and third respectively in the women’s marathon.
In the men’s race, Kenya, Daniel Wanjiru held off a late rally from Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele to win in a time of 2:05:49. Bekele posted 2:05:57, with Bedan Karoki of Kenya coming home third at 2:07:41.
