Kenyan boxer Zarika Fatuma has defended her World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight title after trouncing Zambian Catherine Phiri.
Zarika clinched the title on unanimous points decision after scoring 97-92, 98-91 and 99-92 from the three international judges who presided over the fixture.
Speaking during an interview with local press, the pugilist said next year could see her retire from boxing, but expressed her wish for a rematch with American boxer Amanda Serrano before hanging her boots.
“I have one more year in the ring, I will defend this title three or four times next year then quit,” she said.
“ I want a rematch with Amanda Serrano from the US ,I have fought her before and she really gave me a hard time, but now with the good training facilities thanks to the sponsors I believe I can beat her, ” she added.
Zarika called on the the Kenya boxing federation to put in more efforts in supporting the sport and upcoming fighters in the country.
“The boxing federation is not as strong as it should be, and not everyone who is there has the will to help the sport grow because of their selfishness."
“We need to change the approach for the sport to grow because as you have seen from the crowds on Saturday, the sport has massive following,” she said.

She looks like a man. To make the matter worse she has cut her hair very short.
Who made the judge of Gods creation? No one is complaining about your girly looks!
@suragani. God gave Adam authority to name his creation. Adam named all the animals and everything else by looking at how they look.
Have you looked at yourself in the mirrow lately? if so, quit judging and critisizing her looks and pray to God you dont get punished.
You both sound like chauvinists. So, if she has more money than you do she should give to you since all the money belongs to men? Pumbavu
How much Money does Conjestina Achieng have "at the end of the day" so to speak? These days of Women growing Abnormal Muscles and Beards to boot (and Men growing Teaties) need to Stop (for Normalcy sake). Afadhali UPUMBAVU wa YESU Kristo kuliko Kichwa maji; tena Shoga.
@Ken. We are not talking about money. We are talking about masculine. Look at those arms.

Guest1, you really are a hater! Well, she may be the things you say she is, but she is laughing all the way to the bank whilst you resign your mashift due to someone who does not speak to you! The coins in her pocket don't know if she is a looker or stinker. Sexist!
Who decides what is aman's sport or awoman's sport? Society. Not too long ago marathon was strictly for men. Now see how our ladies are making agood living from running.
Some women perform at avery high level in athletics that most men.
Nursing used to be a women's vocation.Men have gone there in droves. Women drive trucks, trains.
In some societies, women do the hard work, such as building houses.Hey even in Kenya, look around and see what king of heavy loads women carry in addition to"junior" onthe back.
What women can do or not do is purely a social construct. And yes Iam aware that women are better at other things than men, vise versa. But we can all appreciate competition amongst women, just like we appreciate competition amongst men.Its all in the name of fun,and afew bucks here and there.
Women Engaging in Man's Sport is one of the UGLIEST things I hate seeing. Conjestina Muscles here, Beards there, Bare Chest hapa, Sura Mbaya pale and Vichwa Wazimu to Boot. Ash!!!
