A Kenyan marathoner, Michael Kunyuga left many shocked on Sunday after he collapsed near the finish line during a marathon, but that did not stop him from completing the race.
Kunyuga was just a few meters away from the finish line during Hanover Marathon in Germany when he collapsed to the ground.
He had taken second place and his fellow Kenyan runner, Duncan Koech was fast approaching from behind. After falling, Kunyuga crawled across the finish line, eventually winning silver.
He finished the race in two hours, 10 minutes and 16 seconds, only three seconds before Koech in third.
Medical attendants helped him after he crossed the finish line. Kunyuga’s time 2:10:16 is also a personal best after he clocked 2:10:43 at the Padova Marathon in Italy last year. Ethiopia’s Seboka Negussa Erre won the race in 2:09:44.

Congratulations Kunyuga...a true champion. Thank God this happened in a country where health issues are taken serious. He received immediate health care mara moja. Hakuitishwa log book kwanza!
Boy! That brought our a serious case of goose bumps in me! Well done ndugu, pure determination. I would love a blown up picture of that crawl in my lounge with a catch phrase to this effect: "Determination pays off" or "If you want it bad enough, nothing can stop you!".
