Nairobi Court Issues Warrant of Arrest for Kenya Rugby 7s Star Alex Olaba in Gang-Raping Case

A Nairobi court has issued a warrant of arrest against Kenya 7s rugby star Alex Olaba.

The warrant of arrest was issued after the player failed to appear in court for the second time for judgment in a rape case.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku was scheduled to deliver the judgment on Thursday, June 12th but Olaba failed to appear. His lawyer told the magistrate that his client was stuck in traffic and could not arrive in court in time.

Magistrate Mutuku pushed the matter to Friday, July 12th but the accused person failed to appear again.

Olaba was charged with rape alongside his Kenya 7s teammate Frank Wanyama. The two pleaded not guilty to gang-raping a Kenyan female singer and were freed on a cash bail of Sh500,000 each in August last year.

They are accused of committing the crime at Nairobi's Highrise Estate on February 11th, 2018.

The judgment has been deferred to August 5th.
