A woman was killed by stoning in Somalia after an Al Shabaab-run court found her guilty of marrying several husbands, the terror organization said.
BBC reports that the woman, identified as Shukri Abdullahi Warsame, had been charged with marrying 11 times, without having divorced her previous husbands.
Residents of the southern town Sablale said the woman was buried neck-deep and al-Shabab militants stoned her to death. The Somalia-based terror group practices a strict interpretation of Muslim law, Sharia.
Al-Shabab's governor for the Lower Shabelle region, Mohamed Abu Usama told Reuters: "Shukri Abdullahi and nine husbands, including her legal husband, were brought at the court, each saying she was his wife."
Islamic law states that polyandry - a woman having more than one husband - is unlawful, but men are allowed to marry up to four wives.
Both partners are allowed to separate legally, but while men can divorce their wives, women must seek consent from their husbands and if denied, they can seek the religious court's approval.
A news website operated by the terror group reported that Ms Abdullahi was in "perfect" health, and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Where are her husbands? They should have stoned them also. They married her knowing she has been married before. Double standard.

Hello! The practice of barbarism still exists in the 21 st century and here rears its ugly head, yet again. So she married 11 men without divorcing and for that she gets buried in a hole with her head protruding and is stoned to death. And many of us will just read and move along because ... ni shauri yao. What is wrong with this situation? They have invoked sharia law - a law presumably divine, I presume, having been "dictated" by God to Mohammed - if you want to believe this. The same law allows men to marry up to four wives. Who, if I may ask, do you think made such laws? God or man. This is just the preservation of patriarchy. That woman is just a victim of men wanting to keep power and control of not only the women folk, but even of their cycles, who they choose to marry or sleep with, deny them sexual pleasure by inflicting genital mutilation, etc. It is nothing to do with crime, except such crime that has been defined and practiced to keep them down. Such barbaric acts deserve severe punishment and those that practice it - total annihilation. I said it.
