Raila Lashes Out at Deputy President William Ruto over "Kati Kati" Remarks

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has lashed out at Deputy President William Ruto over remarks Ruto made during President Kenyatta's visit to Kisumu on Thursday.

Speaking when he accompanied Kenyatta and Odinga during the visit, Ruto said:" Ukiona President Kenyatta akiwa pande hii, Baba (Raila) akiwa pande hii, basi mjue mimi niko kati kati."

However, Odinga has taken issue with the Deputy President's remarks, accusing him of driving politics into his March 9th handshake with President Uhuru.

“It’s foolishness for one to say that he stands between me and President Kenyatta in the handshake. We want people to avoid politics out of the handshake,” Odinga has said during the homecoming ceremony of Rangwe Member of Parliament Lillian Gogo at Omoche Secondary School on Saturday.

Odinga has also thanked residents for turning up in numbers to welcome the President to the region, noting that the reception he got is an indication that the handshake is bearing fruits.

"The warm welcome you gave President Kenyatta and his delegation is a clear indication that the handshake is bearing the fruit of unity. You made us proud."

Other leaders accompanying Odinga to the function have also bashed Ruto over the sentiments.

"DP Ruto should not pretend to support the agreement because when he in his touring outside Nyanza, he criticizes it," East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Oburu Odinga says.

"We understand the propaganda they're trying to bring forth. But we're telling the President and Raila that many Kenyans support their cause," Siaya Senator James Orengo notes.

In the referendum, one item need be pluralism in handshakes i.e multi-handshakes, so that there is grace for all and no one is left out. Handshakes and in general greetings should not be taken lightly, withheld or dished out by discrimination. Those who lived through single part rule (Nyayo error), know how important multiparty politics is and the sacrifice that went into establishing multi-party democracy in Kenya. The same is true with handshake democracy, it should not be single-handshake democracy but multi-handshakes democracy; otherwise we will be sliding back to reminisce of dark days. Even in the scriptures Romans 16, Paul sent lots of personal greetings and in some cases emphasizing on the mode of the greeting-holy kiss. My folks have a saying to the effect that "No greetings" means "hostility and provocation". Back in the day when basic commodities like sugar, flour, etc were in artificial short supply, hoarding the commodities was a rampant-to the misery of the common man. Then came the YK92 (wink!), to be a youth you had to jump through hoops, even if you were young no one dared or dreamt of being a "youth" without some express instructions from somewhere up the clouds. My point is, please handshake stakeholders do not go back to single-party days, nor hoarding commodity days, nor YK92 days with this handshake phoenix. Make it accessible to all my friends.

Raila has lost reality. The "handshake" was political. What does he mean the kijana should not put politics around this. C'mon now wacha paranoia. Ruto is just making his presence known, just like you and Uhuru are doing. Kumangamanga around the country instead of fulfilling their roles.
