Two Senior Police Officers Arrested for Using Police Vehicles to Escort Prophet David Owuor's Convoy

Police have arrested Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Mary Wangui Omari and Kabete OCPD Joseph Ongaya for using police vehicles to escort Prophet Owuor’s convoy during his grand entry into Nakuru on Friday.

Their arrest comes hours after Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet vowed to take action against officers who assigned several police vans to escort the self-proclaimed prophet.

In a statement to newsrooms, Boinnet termed the kind of security given to Owuor as “inappropriate” adding that it smells of “misuse of public resources.”

“The law allows one to hire police for private functions; however, not to the scale depicted in the [Prophet Owuor] video. [I am assuring you that] action [is] being taken. Misuse of public resources is not permitted," Boinnet said.

The two are being detained at Central Police Station in Nairobi while their vehicles are being held at the Rift Valley Regional Police headquarters in Nakuru.

During Owuor's grand entry into Nakuru, his convoy of more than 40 middle and high-end vehicles was escorted by close to 10 police cars with sirens and two motorcycle outriders.

The preacher is in Nakuru for a meeting dubbed the “Mega Revival Meeting” at Menengai Grounds on December 29th, 30th and 31st. Organizers of the event say the preacher will “offer healing services” and “curse illnesses.”

Hii ni ushenzi mtupu. Police escort for a religious conman at poor tax payers' expense? No wonder Africa is the poorest, sickliest, most backward place on Earth. Time to listen to the likes of @Imara.

My fellow blind Christians are milked thinking all will be well. People should know or discern for the right Spirit of God.

The act was irreligious due to lack of faith. God is the only and the best option. Humans are Bristol cycle of generation and corruption...

security for a man of God? it's ridiculous, prophets foresee danger and seeks protection from the most high God! false prophet

The servant of God is supposed to be protected by the Angeles of God not by police!!!. 2 Kings 6:14-16 Elisha was protected by KDF of heaven.

Awuor deserves protection and his people, that is a multitude and should be protected.I don't see anything wrong.

The false prophet Owuor went all the way to Tharaka Nithi and Kabete to hire police? He could have requested the chariots of fire and horses of fire.

One2ManyDayz (not verified)     Sun, 12/30/2018 @ 03:02pm

Wow! used Tharaka Nithi and Kijabe? and not Nakuru county? This is mafia-like arrangement. So the Nakuru police were just watching the grad entry into their jurisdiction and were OK with it? hypothetically, suppose the organizers hired goons and addressed them as another county's police unit, the Nakuru bosses would still have been allowed into the county? It is possible that some Nakuru county bosses culpable as well.

The two officers ought to have received a show cause why letter. This is just a reflection of how corrupt the National Police service is.

Yasin Hassan (not verified)     Sun, 12/30/2018 @ 06:20pm

Boinnet is wrong to arrest these officers as they have not done anything wrong. They just have ensured the safety of this big convoy and made sure law and order was observed.

I keep wondering why the organisers of the Mega Meeting keep creating controversies by doing as such. Such meetings honesty requires police security cos of the large number of people in attendance but not in a manner that this uniformed men are used here. smells weird. Seems like they are 'paid' heavily charging by the seriously at which they conduct themselves. Guns brandished to counter which enemy???

Its really confusing,, on earth we need,a normal. Security ment from the organs of the ruling government, to me I see those officers did good, every body is eligible for security. Regardless of is affiliation.

Surely the end time is very tricky but all in all "Linda sana moyo wako kuliko vyote ulivyo navyo" signs and wonders we have all seen na bado still let us just thank God for the far He has brought us. If a calamity has happened the nation calls for prayers............... Tafakarini kwa hayo

Fellow Kenyans, brothers and sisters, let's sober up.All the security details that was there was paid for,and any congregation of such magnitude is allowed by Kenyan law. It's not about who was there. No one can stop the revival of The Lord Jesus Christ. It is our Kenyan law that says, "You must secure all public figures and gatherings", otherwise you'll be breaking the law. We are however ALWAYS PROTECTED BY OUR GOD JEHOVAH. Let's now debate about those sick Kenyans who participated in the meeting and were healed. The writer of this article, why didn't you interview them to give Kenya full report? YOU CAN DO IT NOW !!! ALL VICTORY BELONGS TO JESUS!!!!!

Police in Kenya help the rich ONLY. They keep ask for bribes whenever you report a criminal to them. They were paid to do such kind of work. Shame on them.

Njai (not verified)     Mon, 12/31/2018 @ 07:33am

Why, oh why can't this false prophet spare a day and go to Nairobi hospice, for the terminally ill, pray, heal these suffering souls? Huyu ni shetani ibilisi.

Exactly @ Njai. What sense does it make for self-proclaimed prophets to arrange mega rallies accompanied with pomp and ceremony if the purpose is to heal the sick? The good prophet should just quietly visit Kenyatta Hospital, heal a few sick patients (if he indeed has the magical powers to do so) and that would have way more impact than putting on a show with these stupid mega rallies. But again why not take advantage of cognitive dissonance amongst us and enrich himself? That in my opinion is what he is actually doing.

Finally these corrupt public officials are being held accountable for their misdeeds. Someone is doing something. We thank you Mr. Inspector General for doing your job. There are protocols to be followed and if not the culprits should be fired immediately. Misusing public funds is a crime. These religious con men and women are preying on everyone and everywhere. These are nothing but multilevel marketing schemes benefiting just one person, the preacher. I refuse to adore another human being on that level. Man of god?????? Give me a break. They are living high on your accounts. Wake up good people. Open your eyes wide enough. Think for yourselves.

Iwish they pursued corrupt policemen with the same gravitas. That would take them off the list of most corrupt agencies for achange.
