Jubilee to Expel Five Nominated Senators for Snubbing Uhuru's State House Meeting

Jubilee Party has revealed plans to expel five nominated Senators who snubbed a Parliamentary Group meeting chaired by President Kenyatta at State House on Monday, May 11th.

On Wednesday, Jubilee secretary-general Raphael Tuju confirmed the five Senators will face disciplinary action for refusing to honor their invitation to the meeting.

The five include Millicent Omanga, Iman Falhada Dekow, Naomi Jillo, Prengei Victor, and Mary Seneta Yiane.

Tuju said the aforementioned Senators will be expelled over gross insubordination and gross misconduct. He said the five did not send apologies for not attending the meeting.

During the State House meeting, Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika were ousted as Senate Majority Leader and Majority Whip respectively.

The two have since challenged their removal at High Court on grounds that due process was not followed.

In a case filed under a certificate of urgency at the High Court, the two have named Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, Jubilee party secretary-general Raphael Tuju and Kanu’s chairman Nelson Dzuya as respondents.

They claim the respondents flouted the law by signing an illegal post-election agreement that culminated in their removal as Senate Majority Leader and Whip.

The two further argue that the Parliamentary Group meeting held at State House lacked quorum as the number of senators who attended was not enough to kick them out.

They have asked the court to declare the post-election deal between Jubilee and Kanu as invalid, null, and void, saying it was not sanctioned by Jubilee’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Murkomen was replaced with West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio of Kanu while Senator Irungu Kang’ata of Murang’a took up Kihika’s position.
 
The matter will be mentioned on Thursday, May 14th before Justice James Makau.
