Political Parties Tribunal Upholds Jubilee Party’s Decision to Expel 6 Senators

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has upheld Jubilee Party’s decision to expel six nominated Senators.

The six, Isaac Mwaura, Mary Seneta Yiane, Naomi Waqo Jilo, Millicent Omanga, Victor Prengei, Iman Dekow, and Christine Zawadi were axed in February on the grounds of gross misconduct and insubordination.

The decision to eject the nominated senators was made by the Jubilee Party National Management Committee (NMC) on February 8th following a report by the party’s disciplinary committee.

“The [NMC] of the Jubilee Party met today and deliberated on reports submitted by the Party Disciplinary Committee with respect to Senators who have appeared before them this year and last year on disciplinary violations as per Article 13 of the party constitution.”

“The NMC in exercising its mandate provided or under article 7 (2a) of the party’s constitution and relying on other enabling provisions of the party law has expelled the following senators,” Jubilee secretary-general Raphael Tuju said in a press release.

The six appealed the decision before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which barred the Registrar of Political Parties from removing their names from Jubilee membership until their complaints are heard and determined.

In a ruling on Friday, the tribunal dismissed applications filed by the six seeking to reverse their removal.
