Mother, Stepdad, and a Teen Found Guilty of Killing a 5-Year-Old Kenyan-British Boy

A UK court has convicted three people of the murder of five-year-old boy Logan Mwangi whose father is a Kenyan.

The Cardiff Crown Court found Logan's mother Angharad Williamson (31), his stepfather John Cole (40), and a 14-year-old boy guilty of murdering the deceased. The three abused and killed Logan before dumping his body in River Ogmore, near their home in Pandy Park, Wales on July 31st, 2021.

The body of Logan, whose Kenyan father Benjamin Mwangi works as a bookmaker in the UK, was discovered in the river towards the end of July 2020.

The court said his body had horrendous injuries including 56 external wounds and bruises and internal injuries similar to those witnessed in victims of high-speed car crashes.

During the trial, jurors heard how Logan was treated like a prisoner in the days before his death. On the month he died, the deceased tested positive for Covid-19 and was locked in his bedroom with a baby gate barring him from leaving.

Prosecutor Caroline Rees said Williamson and Cole forced the minor to face the wall when they took him food.

The jury was also told that the 14-year-old teen they were living with had a desire for violence and pushed Logan down the stairs, breaking his arm.

A support worker also heard him singing: "I love to punch kids in the head, it's orgasmic."

“He suffered damage to his brain, liver and stomach. His death would have been slow and painful,” The Guardian reported.

Logan’s father met Williamson in 2010 while she was working as a warehouse manager in Essex, South East England, through mutual acquaintances. They started dating in 2014 and Logan was born on March 15th, 2016.

“I was present when Logan was born and it was the happiest time of my life. I stayed with Claire (Williamson’s mother) for a few weeks but I would clash quite a lot with Claire and did not think it was good for anyone, especially Logan, so I moved back to Brentwood,” Mwangi testified.

“During that period I was in regular contact with Angharad, who would call me and send me pictures of Logan. He was the cutest little boy…We were back and forth visiting each other.”

Mwangi said things changed after Williamson met Cole, who has a criminal record for burglary, assault, resisting arrest, possession of bhang, and impeding the course of justice.

“He held long-standing racist beliefs which could have been relevant to his motives in the attacks on Logan, and he even stopped him from seeing his real father and grandmother,” said Mwangi.

Williamson later phoned Mwangi to inform him that she would cut their communications as her new partner “did not think it was normal” for them to continue speaking.

Mwangi would only communicate with Logan via video call on weekends when the boy was living staying with his grandmother Claire.

Court documents show that Logan’s suffering began in 2019 when his mother and stepfather locked him in a dark room, denying him food and forcing him to eat only cereals and water for supper.

The boy is said to have shown up at school with mysterious injuries on multiple occasions before he began stammering, wetting himself frequently, and inflicting bodily harm on himself. Teachers reported to social workers to no avail.

Months before Logan’s murder, medical experts raised alarm about his damaged arm, and they contacted the authorities.

The boy was assigned a social worker, but he was removed a month before his death because the government no longer considered he was facing a major risk to his life.

The 14-year-old’s foster family is said to have discovered knives stashed in his closet on numerous occasions.

“The youth repeatedly talked about how much he hated Logan and wanted him dead. He didn’t even call him Logan, he called him “the five-year-old”. Social services were told about the threats,” the court heard.

Cole is said to have punched Logan in the stomach, and the 14-year-old swept the boy off his feet with a martial arts move.

My experience tells me that Mwangi knew from the start of they relationship that claire uses drugs or pain killers either by medical or not. If he didn't knew, then Mwangi is naïve (a lack of experience, wisdom, or judgment) which totally misled him.

You see after she gave birth, issues started mainly because she needed more strong dozes to counter the birth pain etc.

It may be she wasn't initially addicted. Doctors have tended to prescribe opioids more to white people because they can relate to their pain. This has led to a disproportionately higher percentage of the white people being addicted after surgery or getting hurt. After all, who wants to see a white person in pain?

I cannot try to imagine the pain Logan went through! It hurts .
social workers and the judge many a time failed Logan. It is very often in many parts of the world the social workers are prejudiced in their judgements . they either take away a child from responsible parents or let irresponsible one keep hurting the child. The boy had another parent who they could have handed him to . No racism works different.Hope they will get life .

That is very sad and disheartening! Pure racial discrimination. Logan didn’t deserve such brutality at all. I do blame authorities for the same too. May the tormentors rot in jail forever. May they find no peace for the rest of their lives! May Logan’s soul rest in eternal peace.

This little boy was set up for bad fate from the word go. The mother did not love him and so is the step dad and half-brother. Social services people let him fall through the cracks, and never followed through with the information they received. And finally, the biological father. Mr. Mwangi should also have demanded visitation rights. Come on people! This is the West, and that should not have taken a miracle to happen!

Colorism is a serious "mental illness" affecting many people of "European" descent.

It started way back in history when the Roman Catholic Pope Nicholas the fifth decided that people of COHO (Continent Of Human Origins wrongly labeled AFRICA after Leo Africanus who was born in Spain) must be sold into slavery because they were not followers of the religion that is based on the late Son of Mariam.
The late Pope Nicholas could not tolerate human color differences and was responsible for starting the Atlantic Slave Trade.

How would you explain similar cases involving natives? Wazazi wakambo storos are littered literally all over the world. Blanketing atrocities and recklessly assigning person opinion dilutes the evil nature of these deeds.

As suggested, skin color seems to have played a role in the suffering of this young boy,and ultimate death.Very sad indeed.
@ Ndugu Imara Daima, talking to colorism, Iam reminded of " the brown paper bag test in USA".This is the shameful past that blacks dont like to talk about.Yes, they used to hang a brown paper by the entrance of the church, and if your skin color was darker than the paper you were not allowed in. My question is,why did those who were allowed in protest and say that we are all children of God? The answer is,they were made to believe that black was evil- the devil. Now I ask my fellow africans, why would you follow a religion that has shamed you since man walked on two feet, and still continues to subjugate you?Islam is not better alternative either.Muhammad traded in black african slaves and had afew for sexual pleasure. These are the uncomfortable truth, that Islam does not tell its adherents, and if it does, they take it as Allah's will...
Africans, lets use the brains our creator endowed us with us to seek the truth, and make the right decisions. Always question. Dont follow blindly. If prayers worked, would we have sick people in hospitals? would we have hunger? We could just pray and turn two loves of bread into bucketful left overs.Iknow what Iam saying makes alot of people uncomfortable, and many will call me an kaffir, that's fine, but we both know that all religions are purely based on beliefs, and all cannot solve any human problems, that's why they talk of the unkownn future. To that end, african religions are equally valid.Prove me wrong...
Back to the story at hand...Many comments are spot on,so all I will say is that let the extend of law punish the perpetrators of this atrocious crime to the fullest. That's all we can do besides taking the"mentally deranged"people away from society. My two cents.

Ndugu @ Maxiley: Wonderful in depth research on this extremely sensitive human topic. Thanks a lot. Congratulations!

I have found a very interesting summary about what the Jews think about the Son of Mariam. It is a long video clip. Just focus from 5:20 - 5:40 about 20 seconds.
Hannah who resides in Jerusalem has probably the best analysis on her stand about all religions.

@ Ndugu Imara Daima, right. The most important take away from the video clip is from that time stretch 5:20-5:40(...It is a story for people who have not been taught critical thinking."And one of the pillars of critical thinking is questioning, and analyzing before making a judgment or decision.

Ndugu @ Maxiley: Thank you for making it possible for me to watch this video clip.

We must accept responsibility for allowing gangsters to roam in our brains freely without paying any rent and planting seeds of a very evil religion.

I sincerely don't understand why we (the colonized) allow two foreign decadent religions responsible for initiating slave trade and building their economy through the separation of people from their dear families permeate our daily lives?

The gods/deities of these two religions hates the people from our continent. By the way, what are we doing to ourselves when we take their names, languages, cultures, religions, and their distorted history as if we did not have our religions before they came to us uninvited as "illegal aliens, thieves, rapists, land grabbers, and pathological, incorrigible, and congenital liars while selling a myth that the poor shall inherit the kingdom of their crooked deities?

Mr Mwangi seems to behave like most BM in IR relationships. Passive & submissive to WW.Your child continued to sustain injuries but you didn't take him?
Everything is glam until the stabbings start like Obumseli.

Mwangi is as guilty as all those convicted for the death of his son. He abandoned an innocent- helpless little Logan in a cruel, hostile and racist environment and he knew it. Your son's blood is in your hands too.

Apart from the racism phenomenon in the west, the deadly serious one is drug usage & addictions which total destruct families apart. Nowadays the issue is much more inflamed by the local authority having allowed weeds production for the sake of tax money. So be warned immigrant parents with teenage - make them occupied

Alcohol is way more destructive than weed from car crashes to domestic violence. Look up the history of weed policing and you will notice a racial component from the early days. Weed use is quite prevalent among white people but they get let off with warnings. Are you telling me that you prefer proliferation of the illicit chang'aa dens to legal weed?

The number of incidents from weeds have surpass that of Alcohol by far. Weeds destroys brain cells faster in teenage than adults. Alcohol takes a longer time for anyone to be hooked up while the stems of weed interreacts on the spot.

"The study concluded that marijuana had a more damaging effect on teenagers' long-term cognitive abilities than alcohol. Even after students reported stopping marijuana, their cognition did not improve"

It's all dependent on what study you choose to quote and given the paucity of studies on cannabis, it's hard to get great data but here goes:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2722956/
https://www.goodrx.com/well-being/substance-use/is-cannabis-safer-or-he…
Based on preliminary studies though, it would appear weed, while not benign, is certainly less dangerous to one's health than alcohol. While I'm from Nairobi, my people hail from the slopes and I've seen the effects of alcohol on some of the people there. Weed is not in wide usage and hasn't affected me personally. On the other hand, my uncle died at the hands of a drunk motorist. I also know others who have been severely injured. I can't think of anyone who has been killed or injured by a high motorist.
