ENA Coach Bus With 49 Passengers Bursts Into Flames Mid-Journey

A bus belonging to ENA Coach caught fire along the Narok-Mai Mahiu road a few hours after departing Nairobi, but all 49 passengers on board were unharmed.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a punctured wheel. The driver tried to stop the vehicle but it burst into flames possibly due to the friction between the damaged wheel and the road surface. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday and a video circulating online shows the passengers trying unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire.
ENA Coach has confirmed the incident, but their representative has refused to provide further details. Although some passengers lost their belongings, no one was injured. This is the third case of a vehicle catching fire in Kenya since June, and some of these incidents have been fatal.
On June 27, the slippery road conditions caused by heavy rains resulted in an accident along Meru-Embu Highway causing a car to skid off the road. Another accident occurred along the Nakuru - Eldoret Highway where a truck transporting maize sacks crashed into a matatu and burst into flames, leading to the driver's death. According to Nakuru Police officers, the truck appeared to have lost control, possibly due to mechanical problems.
On January 28, A Mombasa-bound bus was burnt to ashes in Voi, Taita-Taveta County. The Tahmeed bus burst into flames on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, a short distance to Voi town. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident which occurred around 4:30 pm.
