President Kenyatta Fetes Mama Sarah Obama with 'Order of the Burning Spear' for Her Service to the Community

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday honored Mama Sarah Obama with the the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) honor for her dedicated service to the poor.

Mama Sarah Obama, who is retired US President Barack Obama’s step grandmother, received the award for her work with the Mama Sarah Obama Foundation which she founded in 2009. The organization is dedicated to helping orphans and poverty-stricken families.

Also honored at the awards ceremony were Lady Justice Philomena Mwilu (Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart) and Otieno James Ongutu (Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya) for their dedication and distinguished service to the nation.
