Woman, 25, Dies by Suicide After Killing Two-Year-Old Daughter in Murang’a
Several violent deaths reported over the New Year period in Murang’a, Bungoma, Kakamega and Kisii counties have left families grieving as police investigate a series of unrelated cases.
In Murang’a County, residents of Kangari area in Kigumo constituency are mourning the deaths of 25-year-old Jane Nyambura and her young daughter, Tianna Kabutha. Nyambura, who had travelled to her parents’ home for the festive season, was found dead alongside the child at the family residence. Neighbours said the incident came as a shock, describing her as friendly and outgoing.
Her mother, Esther Njeri, said she had left the two at home while she went to the market and later received news of their deaths. Family members stated that Nyambura had recently completed a degree in finance but had not secured employment. A family friend, Catherine Wanjiru, said relatives are seeking assistance to arrange the burials and have called on leaders to support young graduates facing prolonged unemployment.
In Bungoma County, police are holding a man who surrendered in connection with the death of his three-year-old cousin in Webuye. The child’s body was found on 31 December in Shangalamwe village, wrapped in a blanket. The suspect was taken to the police station by his mother and remains in custody as investigations continue.
In Kakamega County, detectives are investigating the killing of a 44-year-old man whose body was discovered by the roadside in Mumakunda village, Butere sub-county. Police said the victim had a deep wound to the neck, and inquiries are ongoing to establish what led to the death.
Murang’a County recorded another case after the body of 76-year-old Margaret Mukami was found along the Murang’a–Sagana highway. Police believe she was killed at a different location before her body was abandoned by the roadside. Her family has since identified her remains, and investigations are under way.
In Kisii County, a man was beaten to death by a mob in Nyamage village after being accused of theft. Police condemned the killing and warned against mob justice, saying such actions undermine the law and often lead to the loss of innocent lives.
