Kalonzo Musyoka Pledges to Prioritise Northern Kenya If Elected President
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pledged that a future administration under his coalition would prioritise Northern Kenya in national development, with a focus on strengthening devolution and reducing regional inequalities.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Kalonzo said that many communities in Northern Kenya continue to experience serious development gaps more than a decade after the introduction of devolved governance. He cited limited access to education, healthcare, water, and infrastructure as persistent challenges that have slowed progress in the region.
Kalonzo argued that these shortcomings are not solely due to insufficient national funding, but also to weaknesses in how resources are managed and distributed at the devolved level. He described it as “unfortunate” that thirteen years into devolution, large parts of the region remain underserved.
He said his coalition intends to address these imbalances by ensuring that local communities play a central role in setting development priorities. According to Kalonzo, counties should receive resources that reflect their specific needs, with a stronger emphasis on accountability and service delivery.
“No region should feel left behind,” he said, describing equitable development as essential to national unity and long-term stability.
Kalonzo added that sustained investment in Northern Kenya would create economic opportunities that benefit both the region and the country as a whole. He said his team would work closely with county governments, community leaders, and development partners to improve education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
Kalonzo concluded by saying that every Kenyan, regardless of location, should fully benefit from devolution, describing this as a necessary step towards a more balanced nation.
