Kalonzo Musyoka Declares 2027 Presidential Bid During US Diaspora Meeting
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that he will contest Kenya’s presidency in the 2027 general election, making the declaration during a meeting with Kenyans in the United States.
Kalonzo made the announcement while addressing members of the Kenyan diaspora in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he outlined his leadership vision and underscored the importance of constitutional governance. He said his decision to run was based on public service, experience, and a commitment to protecting human life and constitutional rights.
“I made it clear that I will be on the ballot in 2027,” Kalonzo told the gathering. He added that his political career demonstrated a consistent record of service and responsibility to the Kenyan people.
The meeting focused on Kenya’s leadership challenges and the role citizens, including those living abroad, can play in shaping the country’s future. Musyoka said the diaspora remained closely engaged with national issues and continued to contribute to discussions on governance and development.
He described Kenyans abroad as an important constituency whose involvement extended beyond economic contributions. According to Kalonzo, their participation was essential in promoting leadership that upholds unity, public safety, and dignity in public office.
Kalonzo announcement places him among several opposition figures preparing to challenge President William Ruto in 2027. Others who have indicated interest in the race include former Justice Minister Martha Karua, former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
