British Council Launches Scholarship for Language Teachers With Ksh3.9 Million Salary
The British Council has opened applications for its Language Teachers Training Scholarships for the 2026–27 academic year, offering professional training and an annual salary of £22,000 to successful applicants.
The programme is designed to prepare new teachers of Modern Foreign Languages in England, with a focus on French, German and Spanish. Participants will combine academic study with practical classroom experience, allowing them to develop subject knowledge alongside teaching skills.
Candidates will receive structured training, mentoring and guidance in lesson planning, classroom management and teaching methods. The aim is to ensure that participants are fully prepared to enter the profession upon completion of the programme.
Applicants are expected to hold, or be on track to achieve, at least a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree. Those with a 2:2 or degrees in other disciplines may also be considered if they demonstrate strong proficiency in their chosen language. All candidates must secure a place on a recognised non-salaried teacher training course in England by September 2026.
The scholarships are open to applicants from around the world. To support international candidates, the British Council will host information sessions on 20 February, covering eligibility criteria, relocation requirements and the application process.
