Hassan Joho Says ODM to Field Candidates in All Seats Except Presidency

Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has said that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general election, except the presidency, which is still under negotiation.

Speaking during Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in Mombasa, Joho said the party is preparing for a nationwide campaign while discussions continue over its presidential strategy. He affirmed that ODM is organised and ready to compete across the country.

Joho, a founding member of ODM and former deputy to Raila Odinga, highlighted his long involvement in the party, including his previous role as national organising secretary. He said that ODM’s focus is to secure positions at all levels, with only the presidential race left open for possible agreements.

His remarks come amid internal political activity within the party. Joho has been linked to the Linda Ground movement, while other leaders, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, have supported the Linda Mwananchi initiative. Despite these differing positions, Joho maintained that the party remains united.

During the Eid celebrations at Ummu Kulthum Mosque, Joho also addressed themes of unity and compassion. He urged worshippers to carry forward the values observed during Ramadan and extended his wishes for peace and well-being to the Muslim community.
