US-Based King Kanja Launches Daima Mkenya with Focus on National Identity
Kenyan-born, US-based musician King Kanja has released his new single Daima Mkenya, an Afro-fusion track centred on national identity and unity.
The song combines contemporary African rhythms with global influences and is presented as both an anthem and a broader cultural initiative. Speaking in an interview, Kanja said the project promotes unity across communities while celebrating Kenyan identity.
The release is accompanied by a fashion line under the same name. The collection carries the slogan Born Here, Worn Everywhere and features limited-edition designs inspired by the song’s themes. The clothing line extends the project’s focus on cultural expression beyond music.
Daima Mkenya was produced in collaboration with Karun and Run Music. Kanja described the project as a long-term cultural statement rather than a single release. The music video, filmed on the helipad of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), features a diverse cast, including Maasai dancers, to reflect Kenya’s cultural diversity.
The single is available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Mdundo and Skiza. Kanja also plans to release a DJ-ready distribution package to support remixes and expand the track’s reach.
Separately, Kenyan artist Jovial has released a new single titled My Side, a romantic ballad focused on relationships. She has also spoken about balancing her music career with motherhood, rejecting the idea that family responsibilities limit artistic development.
