Kenyan Man in US Appeals for Support as Cancer Reaches Stage Four

Leon Oketch Okumu, a Kenyan living in Tacoma, Washington, has revealed that his cancer has progressed to stage four after spreading rapidly from stage two within five months.

Okumu said the disease has spread to his bones, lungs, and liver. Doctors linked part of the rapid progression to ongoing blood loss, which continued despite several transfusions. Medical specialists also found that some cancer cells had become resistant to treatment, allowing the illness to advance further.

He is currently in the hospital undergoing radiation therapy aimed at controlling internal bleeding before doctors perform major stomach surgery. As part of the treatment process, he has completed radiation mapping and imaging scans to help doctors target affected areas accurately while protecting healthy tissue.

Small permanent marks, known as radiation tattoos, have also been placed on his skin to guide positioning during treatment sessions. Despite the seriousness of his condition, Okumu said he remains hopeful and determined. He credited his faith and the support of relatives, friends, and well-wishers with helping him continue the fight against the disease.
