Good News for Kenyans in Ohio as Embassy Announces Four-Day Consular Outreach

The Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D.C., will hold a mobile consular outreach in Columbus, Ohio, from 13 to 16 August 2026, giving Kenyans in the region access to key consular services without travelling to the capital.

The embassy announced the outreach in a statement published on its official X account. It said further information on the services available and the requirements for applicants will be released closer to the event.

The four-day exercise is part of the embassy's efforts to make consular services more accessible to Kenyans living across the United States. It is expected to reduce the time and cost of travelling to Washington, D.C., for routine documentation and other consular assistance.

The announcement comes as Kenya's diplomatic missions continue to face operational challenges. Earlier this year, Senator Ledama Olekina raised concerns in Parliament over the welfare of staff serving abroad, citing delayed salaries, unpaid rent and limited operational resources. 

He called on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to address the situation, warning that prolonged financial difficulties could affect Kenya's diplomatic operations. Despite these challenges, the embassy is continuing its outreach programme to improve engagement with the Kenyan diaspora. 

For Kenyans living in Columbus and nearby states, the exercise will provide an opportunity to access essential services closer to home. Mobile consular outreach programmes have become an important way for embassies to serve citizens living far from diplomatic missions. 

They support services such as passport renewals, document certification and other consular assistance while strengthening links between governments and their citizens abroad. With Kenyan communities spread across several states in the United States, outreach programmes help improve access to government services for the diaspora.
