Kenyans Seeking Visas Advised to Use Official Channels Only

Visa applicants in Kenya have been advised to avoid unauthorised agents and intermediaries offering to process applications or secure faster appointments.

VFS Global, which manages visa and passport services on behalf of several governments, said applicants should only use official channels when booking appointments and submitting applications. The company warned that no third party can guarantee quicker appointments, faster processing, or successful visa decisions.

The warning comes as demand for international travel from Kenya continues to increase. VFS Global data shows that visa applications processed in Kenya rose by 20 per cent in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. This follows a 44 per cent increase in 2025, reflecting growing demand for travel for tourism, business, education, and family visits.

Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Canada remain among the most popular destinations for Kenyan travellers, while Australia and China have also recorded significant growth in applications. VFS Global said fraudsters have taken advantage of the increase in applications by offering false guarantees in exchange for payment. 

Many applicants have been targeted with promises of priority appointments or favourable outcomes that cannot be provided by third parties. To address fraudulent activity, the company has introduced several security measures, including appointment verification systems, one-time-password (OTP) based booking, application reference checks, anti-fraud messages at key stages of the process, and restricted access to Visa Application Centres for applicants with confirmed appointments.

Applicants have been advised to verify visa information only through VFS Global’s official platforms and to report any suspicious activity through approved channels.

The company also urged travellers to prepare applications early, especially during busy travel periods, arrive on time for appointments, and ensure all required documents are complete. These steps are intended to reduce delays and help applicants avoid being targeted by fraudulent intermediaries.
