Wiper Denies Reports Linking Kalonzo to Private Talks With Ruto

The Wiper Democratic Movement has dismissed claims that its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, recently held private talks with President William Ruto about a possible political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday, Senate Deputy Minority Leader and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua described the reports as fabricated and intended to divide the opposition. He said no such meeting took place and urged Kenyans to disregard the claims.

Wambua said he was with Musyoka throughout the day the alleged meeting was said to have happened. According to the senator, the Wiper leader attended scheduled engagements in Nairobi, including a meeting with senior editors, before hosting another gathering at his residence. 

He added that if President Ruto met someone named Kalonzo at State House or elsewhere, it was not the Wiper Party leader. He said the reports were part of a wider misinformation campaign aimed at weakening the opposition coalition, which describes itself as the "united alternative government." 

Wambua said the campaign would not succeed and maintained that Musyoka remains committed to working with other opposition leaders to agree on a single presidential candidate for the 2027 election. Wambua also reminded supporters that the Wiper National Delegates Conference held at Uhuru Park in October 2025 endorsed Musyoka as the party's presidential candidate. 

Delegates also gave him authority to pursue alliances with like-minded political parties as part of efforts to build a united opposition. The senator also addressed a video circulating online that appeared to show Musyoka meeting President Ruto. 

He said the footage was recorded in March 2024 when Musyoka, as co-chair of the National Dialogue Committee, presented the committee's report to the President. Wambua said the meeting was part of the committee's official duties and had no connection to discussions about the 2027 election.

The claims come as opposition parties step up preparations for the 2027 General Election, with Musyoka expected to play a central role in coalition talks. Political observers say recurring rumours about his relationship with President Ruto reflect the significance of his position within the opposition.
