26-Year-Old Kenyan Charged With First-Degree Property Damage in Minnesota

A Kenyan national has been arrested in Minnesota after being accused of causing serious property damage, according to authorities in Hennepin County.

Officials identified the suspect as 26-year-old Stephen Anunda Ongondo, who was taken into custody on 31 July under a county warrant. Booking records show he was admitted into custody at 2:47 p.m., although the specific correctional facility has not been identified.

Ongondo has been charged with first-degree property damage under Minnesota Statute 609.595.1(4). The offence is classified as a felony when the value of the damage exceeds US$1,000. Authorities have not released details of the alleged incident, including the type of property involved or the circumstances that led to the charge.

Court records do not state whether bail has been set or provide details of an initial court appearance or any upcoming hearing. Ongondo remains in custody while prosecutors determine how the case will proceed through the state's judicial system.

Under the US legal system, a criminal charge is an allegation and does not establish guilt. Ongondo is presumed innocent unless and until a court finds him guilty.
