Kenyan Envoy Meets Diaspora in Scotland During Commonwealth Games

Kenya’s diplomatic mission in the United Kingdom has concluded a three-day Mobile Consular Services exercise in Glasgow with a meeting between Ambassador Maurice Makoloo and members of the Kenyan community in Scotland during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The meeting, held on 1 August, gave Kenyans living in Scotland an opportunity to discuss their experiences and priorities while exploring ways the High Commission can strengthen its support for the diaspora. The discussions covered a range of issues, including recognition of Kenyans making achievements abroad, opportunities in education and trade, investment partnerships, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment. 

Participants also highlighted the importance of improving access to consular services and called for continued progress in service delivery. Ambassador Makoloo thanked members of the community for their open and constructive contributions. He said their views are important in shaping the High Commission’s approach to engagement with the Kenyan diaspora.

The outreach forms part of Kenya’s wider efforts to strengthen ties with its citizens abroad and encourage greater participation in national development. The Government regards the diaspora as an important partner through remittances, investment, business activity and the transfer of skills and knowledge.

The Glasgow engagement also demonstrated the value of connecting with Kenyan communities during major international events. Held alongside the Commonwealth Games, the meeting highlighted Kenya’s presence abroad through both its athletes and its citizens living overseas.
