Kenyan Woman Completes US Army Basic Combat Training
Kenyan-born Mellon Laibich has graduated from United States Army Combat Basic Training, marking a significant step in her military career.
The training programme required physical endurance, mental discipline and perseverance. Laibich said she experienced days of homesickness and doubt during the demanding programme but remained committed to completing it. She credited her faith and the support of her family for helping her through the challenges.
In a celebratory message following her graduation, Laibich wrote: “Grace carried me! I am ready for this chapter. Signing in, US Army!” The statement reflected her gratitude and determination as she prepared to begin the next stage of her military career.
Her achievement also represents an important milestone for the Kenyan diaspora in the United States. Laibich’s transition from civilian life to military service demonstrates the opportunities available to immigrants who pursue careers in American institutions.
