Nyoro Tells Leaders to Reconcile With Gachagua Before Joining PPK

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has warned that the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) will not admit politicians seeking to escape past controversies, saying prospective members must first make amends with leaders they have previously attacked.

Nyoro, who recently formally left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), said PPK would require members to promote reconciliation and respect within the opposition. He specifically referred to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying politicians who had insulted him or contributed to political hostility should first seek to repair their relationship with him.

“Go and make amends with Gachagua,” Nyoro said, making reconciliation a condition for those seeking to join the party.

He also ruled out membership for politicians accused of inciting violence, particularly in places of worship. Nyoro said PPK would focus on building a cooperative political movement rather than providing protection for leaders associated with violence or divisive rhetoric.

“People’s Party of Kenya will not accommodate leaders who insult others and incite violence,” he said.

Nyoro also called on politicians who have fallen out with key opposition figures, including Jubilee flagbearer Fred Matiang’i, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Gachagua, to pursue dialogue before seeking to join PPK. He said the party would prioritise cooperation and reconciliation among opposition leaders.

His position comes as Kenya’s opposition parties and political movements seek to establish a united challenge to President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections. The emerging field includes Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party, Matiang’i’s Jubilee faction, Musyoka’s Wiper movement and Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement.
