Rose Mbithe, Two Children to Face Murder Charges in Dr Mutiso Case

Rose Mbithe Ndeti and her two children have been charged with the murder of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.

The three appeared before the Nairobi High Court on Monday, where Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori confirmed that murder charges had been registered against Ms Ndeti, her son Chris Mulwa and her daughter Angela Mulwa. The decision followed the conclusion of preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The development marks a significant step in the case, which has seen the three suspects held in custody while assisting detectives. Following the registration of the charges, prosecutors withdrew an earlier application seeking additional time to detain Angela Mulwa.

Dr Mutiso was shot dead in Nairobi on 29 July. She was a psychiatrist and former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health. Investigators told the court that preliminary findings had linked her killing to a land dispute pending before the Machakos courts.

The court also heard that Dr Mutiso had previously reported threats to her safety. In one incident, she said two armed men on a motorcycle confronted her while she was driving in Nairobi. She escaped unharmed and later reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station.

The earlier threats are now part of the investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
