Germany Opens Parliamentary Scholarship for Young Kenyans
Young Africans, including Kenyans, are being invited to apply for Germany’s International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS), which offers participants an opportunity to gain practical experience of parliamentary democracy in Berlin.
An information session for prospective applicants will be held in Nairobi on Friday, 28 August 2026, at the Goethe-Institut. The free event will begin at 2.30 p.m. and will provide information on the scholarship, eligibility requirements and the application process.
Officials from the German Bundestag and former IPS participants will attend the session. They will explain the application requirements and share their experiences of the programme, including what participants can expect while living and working in Berlin.
The IPS programme allows successful applicants to travel to Berlin each January and spend time at the Bundestag. Participants are placed within the German parliament, where they gain practical insight into parliamentary work and the functioning of democratic institutions.
The programme is aimed at politically and socially engaged young people. It seeks to provide participants with a deeper understanding of democratic processes and the role of elected representatives, while supporting their continued civic and political engagement.
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nairobi is organising the information session in partnership with the Goethe-Institut. The initiative forms part of wider efforts to strengthen exchanges between Germany and African countries through education and political engagement.
For African participants, the scholarship provides an opportunity to learn about Germany’s parliamentary system while bringing their own experiences and perspectives to discussions on governance and civic responsibility. Participants can also use the experience to develop their understanding of participation, accountability and transparency.
Detailed information on eligibility requirements, application procedures and deadlines is available on the official Bundestag website.
