Over 500,000 Kenyans Secure Jobs Abroad Through Kazi Majuu Programme

More than 500,000 Kenyans have secured jobs abroad through the government’s Kazi Majuu programme, Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has said.

Speaking in Meru County during the second edition of the Kazi Majuu tournament, Njogu said the number is expected to increase as Kenya implements bilateral labour agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with other countries. She said the government is also working to protect Kenyans seeking jobs abroad from fraudulent recruitment schemes. 

During an information-sharing session at Kinoru Stadium, Njogu, together with officers from the Skills and Expertise Division, advised residents on how to verify employers and identify genuine overseas job opportunities. The government’s employment strategy also includes Kazi Mtandaoni and Kazi kwa Ground, which focus on digital work and local employment opportunities.

Njogu said investments in electricity and water infrastructure would help create jobs by supporting small businesses, irrigation farming and other economic activities. The government is also pursuing education reforms aimed at aligning training with the skills required in international and domestic labour markets.

The three programmes are intended to expand employment opportunities through overseas jobs, digital work and local enterprise. The government expects overseas employment to increase remittances and support skills transfer, while infrastructure investment is expected to strengthen local economic activity. 

Digital work is also being promoted as an additional source of income for young people. Njogu said the government would continue expanding access to employment while ensuring that young Kenyans have the skills and information needed to pursue opportunities safely, both locally and abroad.
