Oburu Receives Senate Energy Committee Delegation at Nairobi Home

Siaya Senator and ODM leader Dr Oburu Oginga received members of the Senate Energy Committee at his Nairobi residence on Thursday morning as he continues recovering at home.

The delegation was led by committee chairperson Senator William Kisang and vice-chairperson Senator Beatrice Ogolla. Former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo also attended the meeting. Oburu said the delegation had visited to offer moral support as he recuperates, while also discussing the committee’s legislative agenda and oversight responsibilities in the energy sector.

“They paid a courtesy call to check on my wellbeing as I continue resting at home, leading to a productive update on the committee meetings, advancing our legislative agenda, and strengthening policy oversight in the energy sector,” he said.

The meeting came weeks after Oburu stepped down as chairperson of the Senate Energy Committee. Senator Kisang has since taken over as chairperson, while Senator Ogolla serves as vice-chairperson. Oburu remains a member of the committee and continues to participate in its work.

The senator was hospitalised in August, prompting public concern over his health. Reports earlier this week claimed that he had been readmitted to Nairobi Hospital. Dr Oburu denied the reports, saying he was discharged on Monday morning and was recovering at home.

He also said several leaders, including Cabinet secretaries, visited him while he was in hospital. Earlier in the week, Oburu sought to reassure the public about his condition, saying he would inform them if he became seriously ill. 

“The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he said.
