Kindiki Targets 2027 Victory With 20,000 UDA Officials in Meru

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged more than 20,000 UDA polling station officials in Meru County to defend the government’s record and strengthen the party’s support at the grassroots.

Speaking at Kinoru Stadium on Friday, Kindiki described the officials as the “bosses” of UDA at polling centres and said they were responsible for communicating the party’s message directly to voters. He said national leaders may operate from Nairobi, but grassroots officials were responsible for explaining the government’s achievements and defending its record in their communities.

“You are the party,” Kindiki told the officials, urging them to take ownership of the political narrative in their respective areas.

Meru County has about 25,000 elected grassroots officials, with 20 representatives selected from each polling station earlier this year. Nationally, UDA has more than two million grassroots officials, according to Kindiki.

He said the size of the network distinguished UDA from other political parties and challenged the opposition to demonstrate a similar organisational structure. He also maintained that UDA was the only party to have conducted democratic elections at polling-centre level.

Kindiki used the meeting to highlight the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development record. He cited lower fertiliser and maize flour prices, the construction of classrooms and laboratories, and the recruitment of teachers.

He also pointed to increased enrolment in technical training institutions and the rollout of the Taifa Care health scheme. According to Kindiki, the scheme now covers more than 32 million Kenyans, compared with eight million under the former NHIF system.

For Meru, Kindiki announced Sh1 billion to upgrade Meru Level Five Hospital to Level Six status. He also cited Sh44 billion for the construction of more than 500 kilometres of new tarmac roads and Sh200 million to expand Meru Dairy’s production and processing capacity.

Kindiki said the projects demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving services and infrastructure in the region. He urged opposition parties to focus on policies and performance rather than slogans and political nicknames ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“President William Ruto and I are ready to face the people of Kenya eye to eye, face to face, and explain what this government has done in the last five years,” he said.

The meeting formed part of UDA’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots organisation ahead of the 2027 election, with local officials expected to communicate the government’s record and party message directly to voters.
