Nairobi Woman Faces Court Over KSh200k Denmark Job Scam

A Nairobi woman has been charged with allegedly obtaining KSh200,000 from a job seeker after falsely promising to secure him employment in Denmark.

Leah Wanjiku appeared before Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai and denied a charge of obtaining money by false pretences. Prosecutors allege that Wanjiku misled Alexander Kyalo Peter into believing that she could secure him a job in Denmark, despite allegedly knowing that the claim was false.

The alleged transaction took place on 30 September 2025 at Absa Towers in Nairobi’s central business district. The court granted Wanjiku cash bail of KSh100,000. The case will return to court on 22 September 2026 for pre-trial directions.

The prosecution follows investigations into the alleged recruitment scam and comes amid repeated warnings to Kenyans seeking employment abroad to verify recruitment agents and ensure they are properly accredited. In a separate case, Bildad Nzuki Wambua, the director of Gladdens Homes Limited, has been charged with allegedly defrauding 22 people of KSh28 million through a purported housing investment scheme.

Prosecutors allege that the victims were persuaded to invest in what they believed were legitimate property deals but subsequently lost substantial amounts of money.
