Kenyans in British Columbia Raise Concerns With High Commission

Kenya’s High Commission in Canada has expanded its diaspora outreach to British Columbia, bringing government officials closer to Kenyans living in the province.

On 5 September, Acting High Commissioner Geoffrey E. Kaituko led officials from the Mission in a community engagement at Bear Creek Park in Surrey. The meeting brought together Kenyans from across British Columbia, giving them an opportunity to raise concerns with government representatives and discuss areas for collaboration in trade, investment and professional networking.

The discussions covered access to consular services, diaspora welfare and the challenges faced by Kenyans living in Canada. Participants also discussed economic opportunities and the role of the diaspora in supporting Kenya’s development.

Kaituko encouraged Kenyans in British Columbia to use their professional expertise and networks to create opportunities in both Canada and Kenya. He also stressed the importance of unity, saying the diaspora has an important role to play in advancing Kenya’s development priorities and strengthening relations between the two countries.

The outreach reflects Kenya’s increasing focus on its diaspora as an important national resource. Kenyans living abroad contribute not only through remittances but also through professional expertise, investment and international networks that can support economic and social development.

The Mission said it would continue to expand platforms for engagement and improve access to consular support.
