Ndindi Nyoro Urges Opposition to Unite Behind One Candidate to Defeat Ruto

Kiharu MP and People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro has called on opposition leaders to set aside their differences and unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking to residents in Kangaita and Mukinduri in Kirinyaga Central on Sunday, Nyoro said Kenyans wanted the opposition to present a united front rather than field competing candidates. He said the opposition should agree on one presidential candidate and running mate to challenge President William Ruto.

“Kenyans want all of us to unite and field only one presidential candidate and one running mate so that we send Ruto home in round one,” he said.

Nyoro criticised what he described as unnecessary disputes among opposition leaders, saying internal divisions could undermine their efforts ahead of the election. He said the opposition should focus on governance and national renewal rather than individual political ambitions.

His remarks come as opposition parties continue to debate leadership, alliances and their strategy for the 2027 election. Nyoro also criticised the spread of illicit alcohol in Kirinyaga and other parts of the country, accusing the government of failing to stop the trade. He said the problem was destroying the lives of young people.

The MP further accused the Ruto administration of intimidating business owners and interfering with private enterprises, including cement manufacturers and companies involved in supplying police uniforms.

“Please, be satisfied with the money you have made! You are making Kenyans suffer when companies are closed. Where will they go?” he asked.

Nyoro said the government should prioritise protecting businesses and livelihoods rather than interfering in private enterprises. He also called on President Ruto to focus on delivering services to Kenyans.

The MP also urged politicians to keep partisan politics out of churches. He said religious spaces should remain places of worship rather than platforms for political attacks.

“I urge my fellow politicians to stop using the church podium to contaminate it. Worship like other Kenyans and sell your agenda outside,” he said.
