Oburu Oginga Flies to UK for Medical Check-Up After Hospitalisation

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom for a scheduled medical review, days after he was briefly admitted to Nairobi Hospital.

Party insiders said the veteran politician is in good health and is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday, 12 September, after completing the check-up. The trip comes shortly after ODM confirmed that Oburu was out of the country but initially described his absence as being for official business. 

On Wednesday, 9 September, the party’s Central Committee met under the chairmanship of Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati, who presided in Oburu’s absence. In a statement, ODM said the committee discussed party affairs and national issues but did not provide further details about the party leader’s whereabouts. 

Oburu’s overseas medical review follows his recent hospitalisation in Nairobi. People close to him have described the visit as routine and said he remains in good spirits. His temporary absence comes as ODM manages internal responsibilities and prepares for upcoming political contests. With Oburu away, his deputies have taken on some of his duties while he undergoes the scheduled review.

Oburu’s expected return on Saturday is expected to allow him to resume his role within the party.
