Ruto, Wetang’ula Mourn Four Chwele Traders Killed in Road Accident

Four traders from Chwele Market in Bungoma County have died in a road accident at Mai Mahiu, while five others were injured and are receiving treatment in different hospitals.

The traders were travelling to Karatina to buy groceries when the crash occurred. The deaths have prompted condolences from national and county leaders, who have expressed support for the victims’ families and called for greater caution on Kenya’s roads.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula joined the Chwele community in mourning the victims and urged motorists to observe caution and discipline.

“I urge all motorists to exercise patience, discipline and caution while using our roads. No journey is so urgent that it should put a human life at risk,” he said.

Wetang’ula offered his prayers and solidarity to the bereaved families, saying the accident highlighted the loss of life caused by road crashes across the country.

President William Ruto also sent his condolences to the families of the deceased traders. He expressed sorrow over the deaths and prayed for strength and comfort for their relatives.

“May God give strength and comfort to the families and relatives to bear the loss. We also wish speedy recovery to the injured,” Ruto said.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka confirmed that four people had died and five others were injured. He said the county government would support the victims and their families and ensure that those injured received the necessary medical care.
