Ruto to Meet Kenyan Diaspora in New York on September 20

President William Ruto will meet Kenyans living in the United States on 20 September during his visit to New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting will take place at Convene, 30 Hudson Yards, from 4pm and is expected to bring together members of the Kenyan diaspora from across the US. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has invited Kenyans interested in attending to register in advance by providing their personal and organisational details.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for Kenyans living abroad to raise concerns, share their experiences and discuss ways of contributing to Kenya’s development agenda. It forms part of the government’s efforts to strengthen engagement with the diaspora through more structured and inclusive platforms.

Diaspora affairs have become an increasingly important part of Kenya’s foreign policy, with successive governments recognising the contribution of Kenyans abroad through remittances, investment, skills transfer and professional networks. The creation of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs reflects this priority and places Kenyans overseas among the partners expected to contribute to national development.

The New York meeting will take place ahead of the UN General Assembly’s high-level debate, scheduled for 22 to 26 September, when world leaders will meet to discuss major global issues. The engagement will form part of President Ruto’s wider visit to New York and provide an opportunity to address issues affecting Kenyans living abroad.
