Government Calls on Kenyans in Canada to Invest Back Home

Kenya has urged its diaspora in Canada to invest their resources and expertise in the country’s economy.

The appeal was made during a roundtable in Ottawa convened by the Kenya High Commission, bringing together community leaders and senior government officials.

Ambassador Geoffrey Kaituko, who heads the Kenyan mission in Canada, chaired the meeting alongside Dr Juma Mukwana, Principal Secretary for Investment. 

Discussions focused on strengthening pathways for diaspora investment and 

creating clear opportunities for Kenyans abroad to contribute to economic growth.

Ambassador Isaiya Kabira, Secretary for Diaspora Investments, Skills and Entrepreneurship, said the government was committed to creating a supportive environment for diaspora-led businesses and investments. 

He encouraged participants to explore investment opportunities across different sectors in Kenya. Kabira said the government views the diaspora not only as a source of remittances but also as strategic partners in entrepreneurship and national development.

The meeting also highlighted the role of the Diaspora Investment Support Office (DISO), which provides information on investment incentives, channels and opportunities. Kabira urged community leaders to maintain close engagement with the office, describing it as a link between Kenyans abroad and Kenya’s economic institutions.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs said the Ottawa roundtable provided an opportunity to harness financial capital, professional expertise and international networks held by Kenyans abroad.
