Kenyan Man Peter Ogwaka Dies After Being Struck by Lorry in Essex

A Kenyan man has died after being struck by a heavy goods vehicle in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

Peter Omwansa Ogwaka died on Wednesday following the collision on Progress Road. Emergency services were called shortly after midday, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The incident resulted in the closure of part of the A127 for several hours while officers from Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit investigated the circumstances.

Police said the lorry driver has not been arrested and that inquiries are continuing.

Ogwaka’s death has left his family and friends struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. Members of the Kenyan and wider community have since organised support for the family, including a WhatsApp group to coordinate assistance and funeral arrangements.

His wife, Sheila Ogwoka, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and burial costs. In her appeal, she said the family was struggling to cope with the unexpected loss and asked friends, relatives and well-wishers for financial support.

“Any contribution, no matter how small, will mean a lot to us during this difficult time,” she wrote, while thanking those who had offered prayers and support.
