Mombasa Man Arrested After Fatally Stabbing Wife and Child in Domestic Dispute

A man is in police custody in Mombasa after allegedly killing his wife and one of their children during a domestic dispute in Shauri Yako, Nyali.

Police said the suspect also attempted to attack another child, aged 14, but was unsuccessful. He later presented himself at Nyali Police Station, where he was detained as investigations began.

The bodies of the victims were taken to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary. Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the incident, including what may have led to the confrontation. The case has been registered as murder and attempted murder.

The incident comes amid a number of family-related killings reported in Kenya in recent months. In July, the High Court sentenced former Kenya Defence Forces Major Peter Mugure to life imprisonment after convicting him of murdering his wife and two children in 2019.

The court found that Mugure had planned the killings before burying the bodies in a shallow grave in Laikipia County. Prosecutors had sought the death penalty, but the judge imposed a life sentence after considering the impact of the crimes on the victims’ families and the time Mugure had already spent in custody.

Police in Mombasa are continuing their investigation into the incident as they seek to establish the circumstances that led to the deaths and the attempted attack on the surviving child.
