Kazi Majuu Tournament Returns as Government Takes Overseas Jobs Drive to Meru

The third edition of the Kazi Majuu Tournament will be held on 3 October 2026 at Kianjai Primary School in Tigania West, Meru County, as the government expands its outreach on overseas employment opportunities.

The tournament will be held under the patronage of Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Kathure Njogu and will use the theme “Mashinani to Majuu: Local Talent, Global Opportunities.” Football will be the main attraction, alongside community engagement on migration, employment and diaspora programmes.

The event is part of the Diaspora Mashinani initiative, which takes discussions on migration and diaspora affairs to local communities. The programme uses community and sporting events to provide information on available opportunities, explain government policies and promote informed participation in overseas labour programmes.

The Kazi Majuu programme seeks to connect Kenyan workers with verified employment opportunities in foreign markets. It covers professions including healthcare, education, engineering, transport and seasonal agricultural work. The programme also aims to promote safer labour migration and reduce the risks associated with unregulated recruitment.

The Diaspora Placement Agency supports the programme by providing labour-market information, connecting prospective workers with employers and assisting applicants with documentation and pre-departure requirements. The government says access to reliable information can help more Kenyans pursue overseas employment through formal channels.

The tournament follows earlier editions, including the inaugural competition held in Buuri Constituency in June. More than 60 teams participated in that event, according to organisers, who said it helped promote community participation, showcase local talent and provide information about government programmes.

The government's focus on overseas employment is also part of its wider response to youth unemployment and limited employment opportunities. It has promoted access to foreign labour markets as one way of expanding employment options while enabling workers to earn income, gain professional experience and contribute to the economy through remittances.

The event in Tigania West will bring the Kazi Majuu and Diaspora Mashinani programmes directly to another local community, with organisers expected to combine the football tournament with information on overseas employment and migration programmes.
