The move follows a meet-and-greet session held at the residence of Kenya’s High Commissioner to Cuba, Ambassador Mwenda Karis, bringing together members of the Kenyan diaspora living and working in Jamaica.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Karis said the High Commission, which covers Kingston from its base in Havana, remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Kenyans abroad and keeping an open line of communication with the community.

Irene Karari, representing Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu, pointed to the strategic role played by citizens abroad. She noted that Kenyans living in foreign countries remain central to driving Kenya's economic growth and long-term development agenda.

The Kingston meeting forms part of a broader push by Kenya's diplomatic missions to maintain closer ties with citizens overseas. State officials want to channel diaspora resources beyond traditional remittances into active business networks and direct investments.

During the engagement, community members shared their day-to-day experiences, raised practical concerns and discussed potential areas of collaboration with the diplomatic mission.

According to the State Department of Diaspora Affairs, similar engagements will continue across various foreign missions to ensure citizens abroad are actively involved in national development initiatives.
