The two parliamentary leaders led a delegation of lawmakers to Dr Oburu’s Nairobi home on Wednesday to check on his progress following his discharge from hospital. The visit brought to light the growing concern among politicians over fake news targeting public figures during health crises.

Wetang’ula criticized people who spread false claims that the veteran politician had died while undergoing treatment. He commended the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader for his resilience, but urged him not to rush back into demanding political work before making a full recovery.

Kingi noted that the Senate had missed Dr Oburu’s contributions to parliamentary debates and his guidance on national issues. He expressed hope that the lawmaker would resume his duties soon.

Dr Oburu said the false reports about his death only strengthened his resolve to overcome his illness. He thanked God for his recovery and said those who spread the rumours had been put to shame.

The Siaya senator admitted that the illness had temporarily halted his political activities, but assured supporters that he was improving steadily and would return to active politics soon. He said the visit by the Speakers and fellow MPs had boosted his morale.

Lawmakers who accompanied the Speakers included Senate Chief Whip David Wakoli, Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, and Senators William Kisang and Daniel Maanzo. National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo, Parliamentary Commissioner Mishi Mboko, and Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Obara were also present.
