Kenyan Woman Returns from Saudi Arabia After Seven Years, Shares Her Story

In 2014, Merab Wanjiku left Kenya for Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures to enable her to provide for her three children.

Seven years later, Wanjiku has returned home not only empty-handed but also with two more kids she delivered while in the Gulf state.

Wanjiku, who hails from Gatundu, Kiambu County, recently shared her story on Baruthi Wa Thayu YouTube channel after arriving in the country a fortnight ago.

The woman said she decided to go to Saudi Arabia to work as a house help after running away from her abusive husband.

"A friend of mine who saw how I was suffering in the marriage gave me the idea to go to Saudi. She asked me to look for Sh10,000 so that I could get started with the process," she said.

Things started going south four months after she arrived in the Middle East nation as she was experiencing pain due to the beatings she got from her estranged husband, making it hard to handle chores in her employer’s house. She asked to return to Kenya but the employer was not willing to release her.

"They took me to another Arab's house to work for them but there, the workload was even worse," she said.

Her attempts to seek assistance from the Kenyan Embassy in Riyadh were unsuccessful, forcing her to remain there.

Wanjiku later met a Kenyan couple who conned her nearly all the money she had earned, leaving her with nothing to survive on.

She started interacting with a group of ladies whom she would party with in Saudi and in the process met her first Sudanese lover who impregnated her.

"When I became pregnant, he, however, left to his country, never to return. I did not even get to speak to him again," she said.

A few months later, she fell for another Sudanese man who equally impregnated her and fled, making her life unbearable. Left with no option, she surrendered to a deportation center together with her two children and was repatriated to Kenya a few weeks ago.

At home, the situation was worse after she found that her estranged husband remarried and abandoned the three children they had together.

Any surprise here? Many young women nowadays have become over-generous, giving it to any man as long as he has some little money, can hug, kiss & call her sweet babe. The sexual liberalism in Kenya siku hizi is simply astonishing compared to earlier times - our women are no longer the same some of us grew knowing. Kumtolea mwanaume panty imekuwa tu jambo la kawaida, you meet briefly, express interest & voila, there you go! Is it coz we’ve succeeded in ending the cut? Why all this high libido amongst women?

@ interesting. When women play hard to get, men complain,or give up,and when they freely "participate" they are cheapened. I think the problem is with men.
Why dont men refuse, and say, you are too cheap for my standard?
@ Mlachake, traditions, and mores have been challenged.May be its the women's lib.,or just way things change when cultures, and enlightment intertwine. Were just not used to this.We of the older generation. Iam sure the current generation see it as normal.

No condoms in Saudi Arabia! She went there to party and not to work! She could screw around but she was not able to work! Seven years wasted roaming in the hot desert all the way to Mount Senai and back to Nairobi!!

Four months after leaving her husband beatings, the beatings were too painful for her to work?
Two children from two different Sudanese? And it's not like she did anything - no. She got impregnated.
And she's surprised/frustrated that her ex husband who was abusive had remarried.
IRRESPONSIBILITY has a meaning.
And btw, most you tube channels have become advertising and fundraising mouthpiece.

All she had to do was focus on her kids and persevere, work hard and save. She sounds lazy from what is written. On the hand she didn’t come back empty handed since she got two extra juniors.

After all the situation wasn’t all that bad since she had time to fornicate around and now she got two presents to show for her hard work in Saudi Arabia! Some things are just hard to comprehend how she me one like her get in a such a self inflicted situation.

Yet another one has returned but at least she is lucky to be alive. The government needs to shut down all these “employment” agencies exploiting poor youth with the same zeal it is applying in flashing out herders from Laikipia ranches .Assuming it is not just lighting the flame for ethnic clashes to erupt now that elections are next year.Whyshould somebody be living off the sweat of others knowing full well they are sending them there to die and say they are creating or facilitating employment.Kazi si kazi .Others are spreading lies of how they have “made it “over there doing “housework”my foot. They need to tell the truth Arabs are evil and vile they started and still trade in slavery only now it is done on the internet through apps.

Every time a man offers advise to his wife, he is termed as abusive!

We can see how far this woman went without listening to her husband! But now she reflects that the man has moved on with another woman!

Did she expect him to wait for her for 7 good years and then find out that she had children with two different men!? Pleazzzz!!!

As a species I think the African women are technically the most ignorant and as result they suffer the most and have the most poverty despite their land and human resource capacity.

And just for advice to any Kenyan women out there with the same kind of stupid thinking. I have interacted with many African men who say they want to impregnate Kenyan women because they are too easy to deceive with little money.

So of course she will say the men were abusive but the reality is she took the risk to have the children with them and now she has no choice but to take pay her dues.

In life, you don't get what you want. You get what you are. From the story, the lady is simply a prostitute. She could not live with one man in Kenya, and wanted easy money. So she has made up a cock and bull story of why she left him, which does not add up. She went to Saudi Arabia, where she continued selling her body, and suffered the consequences, including being deported. Let us call a spade a spade, not a big spoon. The lady is just harvesting what she has been planting.
