Kenyans in the Diaspora Send Home Sh38.5 Billion in January

Kenyans in the diaspora sent home $338.7 million (Sh38.5 billion) in January 2022, the latest data by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) shows.

This represents a 21.7 percent growth in diaspora inflows compared to the similar period last year when Sh31.6 billion ($278.3 million) was received.

The cumulative inflows for the 12 months to January totaled $3.778 billion (Sh427 billion), a 21.4 percent increase compared to $3.113 billion (Sh351.4 billion) in the same period in 2021.

The United States remained the largest source of remittances into Kenya, accounting for 63.6 percent of the total inflows.

Remittances from Kenyans living and working abroad remain Kenya’s highest foreign exchange earner ahead of earning from horticulture and tea exports.

In 2021, Kenya received Sh422 billion ($3.718 billion) from the diaspora, setting an all-time record for the diaspora flows over a calendar year.

Kenyans abroad sent Sh40 billion ($350.6 million) in December last year, the highest remittances over a month.

Go get matakonomics bottom-up help from your DP Ruto! He has a lot of stolen money to dish out to you. He might send Sudi to help you steal KSCE papers so you can ge a cook’s job at Lake Naivasha hotel.

Well done.Good work diaspora, keep on building the Nation.Every month you send Sh.billions kujenga taifa...I cannot wrap my mind around what Kenya's economy with a population of 53 plus million people would look like without DR- diaspora revenue.

Well, its hard to keep building a nation of crooks and thieves! Land in America is much cheaper and more secure than land in kenya.

Leaseholds are unheard of in the US - so you get to own your RealEstate the center of the earth to the the skies for life!

You are taxed heavily on every dollar you send to kenya due to corruption, etc! The land in America is far much valuable and cheaper in comparison to kenya. If you build a 4 plex in America, your average rent for a 3 bedroom is $2800 - $3600 per month for each Unit X 4 = ? Do the math!

When you return to Kenya, the KRA harass you so much wanting kitu kikubwa to have your things cleared. They want to you to bring back the things you got the trash cans when you first got to America, if the find anything new you have to pay duty and they set their own prices.
They also want use to buy junk cars to bring back.
The president should be told to allow any care the person can afford, after all you want to retire with a good car after working hard. After all if you sell this car you have to pay duty so why have the rule to say you bring a similar car as you were driving?

Those Kra thieves must be stopped! Someone need to put control on those thieves! No wonder most diaspora have refused to invest in kenya because of the poor coordination of government functions! I’m investing in American because I hate dealing with the red tape all over the country!
