Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has nullified the nomination of Mwangi wa Iria as the Jubilee Party winner of the Murang’a Governor’s seat.
The ruling was made on Friday following a petition by wa Iria’s rival in the primary election, Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau. Kamau had cited massive irregularities in the nomination exercise held last month, saying the process was not free and fair, and lacked credibility.
Kamau urged that his opponent marshaled people who voted more than once, and had stuffed boxes with ballot papers. In that process Mwangi was declared the winner with 205,976 votes against Kamau’s 119,339 votes.
The Tribunal has ordered fresh nominations to be conducted in the county in 48 hours.
