French retail chain Carrefour has launched investigating into an incident in which a Kenyan shopper was reportedly physically and racially abused by a white female customer at one of their shopping mall in Nairobi's Karen area.
Through the social media, a shopper identified as Wangu Wa Muendo claimed that she was racially abused by the white woman while lining up at the
In her post, Muendo alleged that the retail's management declined to come to her defence despite reporting the incident to one of the cashiers.
“I got into queue like a civilized individual. This beautiful white woman comes from around the corner and comes to stand at the front of the queue. An elderly black man was next in line and seeing she has two little girls with her, he does the gentlemanly thing and lets her pass. She proceeds to explain to all that we lazy Africans are the reason why we aren’t progressing in life. The elderly gentlemen proceeds to the next counter,” wrote Ms Muendo.
She further narrates how the white lady went ahead to push her and scattered her shopping on the floor.
“I request the teller to get hold of a manager. He calls someone but no one picked his calls.”
In a statement on Monday, supermarket said it was looking into the incident and assured that they value each of their customers.
"Given the seriousness of the allegation,we are already carrying our investigations, with a view of taking appropriate action. We appreciate and value each of our customers," the statement read in part.
“We are committed to offering them [customers] fair and equal treatment, irrespective of their race, gender and social class. As such, we do not advocate or condone the mistreatment of our customer, by either our staff or any other customers,” continued the statement.

I choose to not believe this story because if I do, I will be so pissed I could get a heart attack. Not in our country, someone needs to get to the bottom of this... And fast.
I would rather a Racist than a Tribalist who hates his own Black Blood.
I agree with you. Unfortunately you are one of those tribalists.
I only agree with you because you describe yourself with such great clarity. It takes a bigot to recognize another or self.
Were there security cameras recording this incident? Action must be taken to whoever was at fault.
These foreigners are growing *alls everyday and they have to be checked sooner. These chains contribute to damping and they should also be streamlined... NOT AT HOME...someone tell them to go back to their 'perfect' world! This is Kenya, Kenya for Africans!
Why not kick the dirty ass of this stupid white lady......
problem even those cadhiers serves them even after jumping line...
why are kenyans shopping in that colonial name supermarket.....let support our own.m
kenyans do not shop in those supermarkets and others with same name...lets support our homegrown ones ..hizi ni za racists....mkundu red wazungu
Happens all the time in Kenya, why? Because we let them. Go to the airport and our brothers and sisters beam at mzungus like the sun is coming out of their mouth. Their expressions rapidly changes when one of us is next in line. Let's work on ourselves first. Wamezoea and that's coz we let them. I once checked a Mzungu in a major phone company. The queue was a long one to the cashier, and this Mzungu walks in right to the counter without a glance at the people already there. I was already pissed off for standing for so long, so I watched how the cashier would take it. Ala, he went on to serve him but it was too much for me. I went over and pointed out that the guy had just walked in and in case he missed it, there were some elderly people waiting in line. The mzungu looked at me in amazement, then quickly apologized and said something about parking his car. To be fair, I truly believed he acted out of habit, our people had made him king in own land. They need to be checked.
Sukari, to underscore what you have said,i am reminded of that kenyan lady with a poster looking for a mzungu...
You are right @Sukari...queue jumping for jungus and asians is so common. I was at KCB Sarit waiting to see the Business Manager and on a queue with no numbers being picked you had to know who was ahead of you....asians would come-by as if saying hello to the Manager...and as you say the Managers demeanour changes, smiles and confidence, leaves the customer they were serving and shameless engages the muindi...serves him while he stands over the seated mwananchi who is half-way served... I witnessed about 3 asians come, jump the queue and get served while others waited. Is it lack of self-confidence or what is this thing that Kenyans think white skin is privileged. Please wake up dear Kenyans, whites have sold this idea to us, emphasized it thro' TV and print and we have bought it...so stupid... bleaching our beautiful skin, and many other small tell-tales that just makes us look so shallow yet we know who really is.
I totally agree with you super. We enable this vice. Sadly, the peach skin complexion is deceptive to a lot of Kenyans. There's nothing special about it except the ability to wrinkle and bruise fast, and saggy and ugly with age. The only sure way is to act swiftly when you encounter a monster that is testing boundaries.
Something fishy in this story. This supposed white lady knocked down this Kenyan who refused to give way and others just sat silently. She says her shopping including milk and yoghurt fell to the floor. Why not just walk out .
This story is too detailed to be fishy, and for you to question such a story shows you personally have to examine yourself. Also the security guard who came to help out the white woman already had made a judgement against his own Kenyan sister. Ethiopians and Somalis( who don't even have a functional country) complain all the time how we Kenyans are quick to lick a mzungu behind while putting each other down. This is surely a psychological issue.
talk about the hotel bookings where the waiters who Kenyans think you can't afford. I went to Swamis in Laikipia county. 25k a night to me its reasonable and affordable. I wanted to spend the whole weekend but the reception was awful. took my dollars elsewhere. Sankara Nairobi was treated like crap after trailing back from Sopa Naivasha. Attitude only changed when they realized I was a physician living in the US and saw my Phptpgraphy equipment thinking I work for Media. Sanakara Directors & their MD trying to give me free weekend i gladly refused and advised them to use that money for customer service. Please I hate to use my title but thats the only way you get service in Kenya. One wonders what about folks that are not doctors or engineers from US? Decided to only visit places I have been and they treat me like a king for they
I hear you Maxiley. Really annoys me..to be discriminated abroad because of my heritage and to have the discriminators treated like kings in my own country. It's just internalized slave mentality.
My first wife was a mzungu and not all of them behave that way.
