Six Police Officers Killed in Laikipia Banditry Attack

Six police officers were on Wednesday evening shot dead at Kamwenje area in Laikipia West Sub-county in fresh banditry attacks. Four others sustained serious injuries during the ambush and were airlifted to Nairobi for treatment.
A police officer who sought anonymity said that the security officials were ambushed by more than 100 bandits at around 6.30 pm along the Baringo-Laikipia border.
"They (police) were conducting a security patrol along the Baringo-Laikipia boarder when they were ambushed by over 100 bandits," said the officer who sought anonymity.
The officer said that the bandits emerged from a Bush in Laikipia Nature conservancy and shot at the police officers.
An Anti-Stock Theft Training Unit (ASTTU) officer, Gilgil Deputy County Commander and a Staffing Officer in charge of operations are some of the officers killed during the incident.
"Both of them reported to work today (Wednesday) from Gilgil where they are based," added another police officer.
Confirming the incident, Nyahururu Officer Commanding Police Division, Ezekiel Chepkwony said that the officers engaged the bandits in a shootout, killing six and injuring four of them.
"There was a shootout this (Wednesday) evening between police officers and bandits and some of the officers were injured," the police boss told the Nation.
