State House has confirmed that former United States President Barack Obama will be visiting Kenya on July 16th.
Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday morning, State House Deputy Spokesperson Kanze Dena also said a delegation of officials from US President Donald Trump administration will arrive in the country prior to Obama’s tour.
“The US delegation will be here to establish and strengthen existing business relations with Kenya,” she said on Wednesday.
Kanze said business leaders from different American companies will also be part of the entourage. “They will be led by the United States Under Secretary of State," the Spokeswoman said.
This will be the first time Obama is coming to Kenya since he left the White House in January, 2017.
He is scheduled to officially launch Sauti Kuu, an NGO owned by his half-sister Dr Auma Obama at his ancestral village of K’Ogelo in Siaya county on July 16th.
Obama will first pay a courtesy call on President Kenyatta at State House in Nairobi, before heading to K'Ogelo for the function.
After the one-day trip to Kenya, Obama will head to South Africa, where he is set to deliver a speech at the 16th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture in Johannesburg on July 17th.
