DCI George Kinoti, DPP Noordin Haji Fly to London to Recover Looted Billions Stashed in the UK

George Kinoti, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji have now moved to recover billions of shillings hidden in offshore accounts by wealthy and corrupt Kenyans.

Kinoti and Haji have flown to the United Kingdom to meet British authorities and agree on how the funds stolen from Kenya will be repatriated to the country.

The two will hold meetings with officials from the British National Crime Agency, Metropolitan Police Counter terrorism Command, Crown Prosecution Service and the Foreign Commonwealth Office.

Kinoti and Haji will also compile a list of individuals including current and former politicians who have stashed funds stolen from public coffers in the UK, for possible prosecution.

“Kenya wants to exploit UK's Unexplained Wealth legislation to recover the money. The money runs into billions and we hope we will be successful. These orders offer a lucrative and effective means of recouping of illegal funds," says Haji as quoted by the Standard.

In August, President Kenyatta and British Prime Minister Theresa May signed a deal for return of assets and proceeds of corruption to Kenya from the UK.

"We have agreed with Prime Minister Theresa May on modalities of bringing back to the country proceeds of crime and stolen assets. This will boost the war on corruption that has denied Kenyans important services that they deserve,” said President Uhuru after signing of the agreement at State House, Nairobi.
